Pettis is in his eighth season with the Texas organization, his second as the club's third base coach…is the only member of the staff for the entirety of the Ron Washington tenure (2007-present)…in addition to being third base coach and outfield instructor, he also serves as baserunning instructor… served as first base coach for six seasons from 2007-12…under his direction, the Rangers have posted 3 of the top-5 singleseason steal totals in team history…runners had steals in 13 straight to end the 2013 campaign, longest steals streak in team history…Rangers' 655 steals over past five seasons (2009-13) rank second in majors to only Tampa Bay (728) in that span, and the 655 figure is largest steal total over any five-year span in club history…Texas had at least 120 steals in three straight years from 2009-11 for the first time in franchise history…club went first-to-third on a single a major league-high 122 times in 2010, 22 more than the next-closest club (Cincinnati-100).

COACHING CAREER
Was hitting instructor in 2005-06 for the Nashville Sounds, Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate...prior to that he spent four seasons as a Major League first base and outfield coach with the New York Mets (2003-04) and Chicago White Sox (2001- 02)...he also served as a roving Minor League instructor with the White Sox for four seasons (1997-2000) and one season with the Angels (1995).

PLAYING CAREER
Pettis was a five-time Gold Glove winner as an outfielder during his 14-year Major League career...the switch-hitter batted .236 (855-3629) with 354 stolen bases and a .986 fielding percentage for four different clubs, including the Rangers (1990-91)... stole at least 40 bases five times during his career and tallied a pair of 50-steal seasons...in his two seasons with the Rangers, Pettis stole 67 bases, including 38 in 1990 to tie for eighth in the club's singleseason record books...is one of only two outfielders in club history to win a Gold Glove (Juan Beniquez, 1977), earning his fifth and final award in 1990...became only the fifth player in major league history to win a Gold Glove with three different teams...won Gold Gloves in 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989 and 1990...recorded a career fielding percentage of .986...tied the Major League record for most putouts by an outfielder in a game with 12 on June 4, 1985 with California at Baltimore...stole 40-or-more bases five times and had 50-or-more twice...still ranks second on the Angels all-time stolen base list with 186 (Chone Figgins - 280 SB)...stole home twice during the 1985 season - April 28 at Seattle and June 11 at Texas...collected first Major League hit, a game-winning home run off Texas' Danny Darwin, on Oct. 3, 1982.

AMATEUR BACKGROUND
Played two seasons at Laney Junior College in Oakland, Calif...team captain and honorable mention All-Golden Gate conference selection in 1979...lettered in baseball and football at Oakland's Castlemont High School.

PERSONAL
Gary George Pettis...Gary and his wife Peggy, have two daughters, Paige (2/5/91) and Shaye (7/24/01), and two sons, Kyler (10/16/92) and Dante (10/23/95)...the couple resides in San Clemente, Calif...brother, Stacey, was an outfielder in the Pittsburgh and California organizations from 1981-87 and is currently a scout for Seattle...nephew, Austin Pettis, is a wide receiver with the St. Louis Rams...participated in the Ozarka Camps for Hispanic Community.
