The Brewers fell to 2 1/2 games behind the Cubs in the NL Central despite receiving a go-ahead homer in the 10th inning from Corey Hart and seven innings of two-run ball from rookie Yovani Gallardo. Francisco Cordero gave the Braves life when Scott Thorman homered to tie it in the bottom of the 10th, and Brian Shouse gave up the decisive hit in the 11th.
Down to their last out in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Braves received a game-tying homer from pinch-hitter Scott Thorman and won it the next inning on Mark Teixeira's walk-off single. Lost in the win was a standout performance from starter John Smoltz, who lost a no-hitter with two outs in the sixth inning and lasted eight innings, striking out eight Brewers.
