Braves monthly recap

Eighteen wins in July help Atlanta capture NL East crown

April: 14-10
The Braves started the season facing the rest of the National League East and won series against the Marlins and Mets, while sweeping a three-game series against the Phillies. At 14-10, Atlanta was off to a solid start.

May: 14-13
Atlanta won seven of its first nine games in May, but went 7-11 the rest of the way. The Braves finished the month losing four of their last five games, including deficits to the Phillies and Nationals.

June: 15-13
June was slightly better for the Braves as they went two games over .500 during the month. Though they started out cold, the Braves ended strong, going 7-3 in their last 10 games and seemed to be peaking at the right time.

July: 18-8
A large part of the Braves' successful run to the playoffs can be traced to the outstanding month of baseball they played during the month of July. Atlanta twice had winning streaks of six games and dominated the opposition most of the month with solid pitching.

August: 14-14
The Braves slowed down a little in August when they played most of their games against the NL Central and NL West. They had a three-game losing streak at one point and were falling to teams they were expected to beat. Atlanta still managed to finish the month with a .500 mark.

September-October: 15-14
With every team in its division battling for the NL Wild Card, Atlanta continued to sit comfortably in first place and won its record 14th straight division title.
