Braves Set 2010 Opening Day Roster
Two players placed on disabled list
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves today set their 25-man roster for opening day. Atlanta purchased the contract of one player, while two players were optioned and seven others were re-assigned. In addition, infielder Diory Hernandez (left shoulder rehabilitation) and outfielder Jordan Schafer (left wrist rehabilitation) were placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26.
The Braves optioned left-handed pitcher Jonny Venters and catcher Clint Sammons to Gwinnett (AAA). Right-handed pitchers Craig Kimbrel and Scott Proctor, catcher J.C. Boscan, first baseman Freddie Freeman, infielders Brandon Hicks and Joe Thurston and outfielder Matt Young were all re-assigned to Gwinnett.
Also, the Braves purchased the contract of outfielder Jason Heyward and announced that Heyward will switch to uniform number 22.
The Braves open the 2010 campaign - their 45th in Atlanta - on Monday, April 5, versus the Chicago Cubs (4:10 p.m. EST, SportSouth).
The season-opening roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders:
PITCHERS (12): Jesse Chavez (RH), Tommy Hanson (RH), Tim Hudson (RH), Jair Jurrjens (RH), Kenshin Kawakami (RH), Derek Lowe (RH), Kris Medlen (RH), Peter Moylan (RH), Eric O'Flaherty (LH), Jo-Jo Reyes (LH), Takashi Saito (RH) and Billy Wagner (LH)
CATCHERS (2): Brian McCann and David Ross
INFIELDERS (7): Brooks Conrad, Yunel Escobar, Troy Glaus, Eric Hinske, Omar Infante, Chipper Jones and Martin Prado
OUTFIELDERS (4): Melky Cabrera, Matt Diaz, Jason Heyward and Nate McLouth
