Atlanta Braves Name Tony DeMacio Director of Scouting
Veteran scout has served 11 years in the Braves organization

ATLANTA - Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President and General Manager Frank Wren today announced the
appointment of Tony DeMacio as the Club's new Director of Scouting. DeMacio, who was given a two-year contract through
the 2011 season, replaces Roy Clark.
The 2009 season marked DeMacio's 26th year in professional baseball. He began as an area scout for Atlanta in 1983
and worked under Braves Hall of Fame Scouting Director Paul Snyder. DeMacio went on to have a remarkable track record.
He was the Scouting Director for the Baltimore Orioles from 1999 to 2004, and has served as a national or regional cross
checker for the Cleveland Indians (1991-94), Chicago Cubs (1995-98) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2005-06). He returned to Atlanta
as Special Assistant to the General Manager/Major League Scout in December 2006.
DeMacio has left his mark on each organization with which he has worked. The first player he signed for the Braves
was two-time Cy Young Award winner Tom Glavine in 1984. The last player he signed for Atlanta was No. 1 draft pick
Chipper Jones in 1990.
"We are thrilled to be able to add someone to our management staff of Tony's caliber," said Wren. "He was trained by
the legendary Paul Snyder, and can carry on that great tradition of excellence in scouting that the Braves have become known
for."
Snyder added, "Tony was always someone who I felt was a real difference maker for the organization. He's a
'baseball' person and an excellent evaluator of talent who truly goes about his business the right way. I'm very happy for him
and for the Braves."
While with the Indians, DeMacio was involved in drafts that brought future major leaguers Manny Ramirez, Chad
Ogea, Albie Lopez, Jon Nunnally, Paul Shuey, Paul Byrd and Herbert Perry to the Indians farm system. With the Cubs he was
involved in the selections on Kerry Wood, Corey Patterson and Jon Garland, and his Orioles draft picks included such players
as Erik Bedard, Brad Bergesen, Larry Bigbie, Brian Roberts, Jeff Fiorentino, Mike Fontenot, Willie Harris, Jim Johnson, Nick
Markakis, John Maine, Chris Ray and Eli Whiteside.
