Baseball truly is life with Over 20/Under $20

Fans from all stages of growth can benefit from great deals

12/01/09 12:01 AM EST

It is visible in many ways, and few more so than this very moment when everyone is shopping for the holidays and staring at life itself in the form of MLB.com Shop items. Just look at the new Over 20/Under $20 Sale, featuring more than 20 items per club under $20, and you can see for yourself how it all turns out:

• Swaddled in Long Sleeve Creeper with first team logo, then trades it in for the World Series title version if the team cooperates.

• Has no clue what a "title" is but immediately transfixed on round object with stitches, wants to hit it and possibly farther than other babies. Already well into a lifetime of wearing Majestic Athletic baseball gear, mixing in other fashions.

• In constant motion while wearing a Newborn BP Romper. Modeled after the local team's authentic batting practice jersey, a harbinger of times to come.

• Bragging right out of the gates, wears Infant #1 Fan T-shirt by Soft as a Grape. Expects a postseason appearance right away, none of this lifetime-drought stuff. Obsessed with mascots.

• Starts hat collection with Youth Nova Adjustable Cap, tries to put it on Indians Mr. Potato Head. Suddenly distracted by the 2009 MLB Holiday Truck, and soon learns about Spring Training because of a family trip to Florida or Arizona.

• Likes to walk in the rain wearing a backpack on the way to school but soon discovers the benefits of Automatic Folding Umbrella. Eventually learns that rain is a fact of life as a baseball fan.

• Gets driver's license and a Logo Octagon Keychain from MVP Crystals. Drives to ballparks. Sometimes distressed but keeps going back and shows attitude along the way.

• Customizes first Authentic Jersey. Tries to keep up with player movement that generally necessitates customizing another jersey.

• Sports Flannel Boxers and moves out of the home and has a Horizontal Art Glass Frame to keep family memories intact. More likely to portray other idols in strategic wall locations, such as everywhere.

Likes Ichiro. Learns history and appreciates the national pastime's tradition. Buys season tickets.

Takes up golf -- for better or for worse.

• Becomes a collector. Brings up the next generation of Baseball People, keeps her or his Newborn Gear and Tumbler Mug in a Canvas Tote. Teaches young Baseball Person how to score.

Gives MLB.com Gift Cards and waits for Opening Day, then starts life all over again.
