LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Braves avoided arbitration with Kelly Johnson late Tuesday night when the second baseman agreed to a one-year, $2.825 million contract that includes some undisclosed performance bonuses.

With Johnson signed, Jeff Francoeur remains Atlanta's only unsigned arbitration-eligible player. It appears Francoeur and the Braves will not be able to avoid their scheduled arbitration hearing in Phoenix on Friday.

Johnson, whose arbitration hearing was scheduled for Thursday, was requesting a $3.3 million salary and the Braves originally offered $2.35 million offer. The $2.825 million base salary represents the midpoint between these two figures.

Johnson is coming off a season in which he produced career-high totals in batting average (.287), games (150), doubles (39), RBIs (69) and stolen bases (11). His 22-game hitting streak in September was the longest recorded in the National League during the 2008 season.

There has been little progress over the past few weeks with the Francoeur negotiations. The 25-year-old outfielder requested a $3.95 million salary and the Braves originally offered $2.8 million.

Francoeur is planning to travel to Phoenix on Thursday to prepare for Friday's hearing. If the hearing happens, he'll return to Braves camp for Saturday's workout.
