The David Ortiz Children's Fund is dedicated to raising funds that enable children in the Dominican Republic and the Northeastern United States to have access to the pediatric critical care they need to live full, productive lives. The David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic held each December in the Dominican Republic raises money for the Fund.
David started the Papi's Pals ticket program in 2009. Three times during the season, children from Massachusetts General Hospital for Children meet David and enjoy a game at Fenway Park.
In his fifth year of being cancer-free, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester is on a mission to help strike out children's cancer. Joining up with NVRQT, a rally cry for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF), Jon is looking to raise awareness and money to go towards children's cancer research. NVRQT is the voice to support kids in their battle against cancer and the researchers working endlessly towards a cure. These five letters are a powerful message for friends and family signifying their commitment to stand side by side with their loved ones as they battle this disease, and help them NVRQT their fight so that every child can have the hope of a cancer-free future. Through this special ticket program, Red Sox players and coaches donate tickets to highly deserving members of the community, such as teachers, military personnel, police officers, fire fighters, and community organizations. The program was started as an effort to recognize role models and to say thank you to all those in the community who make this world a better place to live.
Red Sox player's wives play an important role in community outreach efforts with their commitment to many important causes. The wives actively support the Red Sox Foundation by volunteering and participating in events like the Run to Homebase and Fenway to the Runway. The Red Sox players and their wives make appearances at schools, youth groups and hospitals. Many of the players and their wives purchase game tickets and food vouchers for kids, or provide direct financial support for youth groups.
