Atlanta Braves create visual experience in SunTrust Park with 300-piece art installation

Original paintings, unique works of art to fill ballpark

March 22, 2017

The Atlanta Braves have partnered with Atlanta-based A-R-T & Associates to create a visual experience for Braves fans at SunTrust Park. The baseball-centric artwork highlights nostalgic moments throughout Braves franchise history, while enhancing the ambiance throughout the ballpark.

The 300-piece installation is largely comprised of original artwork, in various mediums, ranging from portraits to action scenes, and complemented by macro photography, oversized vintage baseball cards and a LEGO brick mosaic.

"We want SunTrust Park to feel like more than just a ballpark to our fans -- we want it to feel like a home," said Derek Schiller, Braves president, business. "These original works of art, many of which were commissioned from local artists, create an intimate and familiar environment in SunTrust Park, making Braves Country feel right at home."

Notable artists contributing to the installation include:

Dominique Lobbestael - Brussels, Belgium
The Belgian native painted energetic portraits of 10 Braves legends for the Delta SKY360 Club. The list includes Hank Aaron, Bobby Cox, Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Greg Maddux, Eddie Mathews, Dale Murphy, Phil Niekro, John Smoltz and Warren Spahn. This project marks Dominique's first work in the United States.

Jason Williams - Alpharetta, Ga.
Jason is an emerging artist who uses LEGO bricks to create awe-inspiring mosaics. His latest piece "Tomahawk", which is built on a LEGO count of 27,745 studs and more than 17,000 individual LEGO bricks, is featured in the main entrance corridor.

John Robertson - Malibu, Calif.
Robertson is known for his impressionistic work and created three of the largest paintings in SunTrust Park for display in the Delta SKY360 Club. The paintings feature scenes of Dale Murphy leaping to rob a home run, Chipper Jones hitting a home run and David Justice sliding in safe across home plate.

Pouya Dianat and BEAM Imagination - Atlanta, Ga.
BEAM Imagination is a visual content company, which calls itself nerdy, techy and passionate about art. Their photographs capture the essence of Braves baseball and are on display in the executive offices and SunTrust Park suites.

Richard Sullivan - Louisville, Ky.
Richard is a watercolor artist and former professional baseball player. A total of 16 paintings and 20 prints hang in the Champions Suites and corridor. The paintings depict the three Braves World Series wins through a series of five paintings each -- with one final painting portraying the 1995 World Series win celebration.

Ross Rossin - Atlanta, Ga.
Ross Rossin has sculpted the new Hank Aaron statue for SunTrust Park, which will be the centerpiece of Monument Garden. He has previously painted the home run king three times, one of which is on display in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. A native of Bulgaria, Rossin resides in Atlanta.

SPOON - Atlanta, Ga.
A minimalist and pointillism artist, SPOON contributed three large format paintings that portray Hank Aaron's 715th home run, Sid Bream's Game 7 slide in the 1992 NLCS and a Chipper Jones diving catch. These paintings are displayed in the INFINITI Club Corridor.

Topps Baseball Card Collection
Seventy oversized baseball cards featuring Braves players from the 1950s to today, all printed on wood, are displayed in the Konica Minolta Conference Center.
