Zac Brown Band (Southern Rock/Country)
April 10 (Opening Day)
The Zac Brown Band has started 2006 by selling out shows in Atlanta, Athens and Birmingham, and have been added to the main stage of the best music festivals in 2006 from Charlotte to Virginia Beach to Little Rock to Charleston. Presently the most sought after southern band in the music industry, the Zac Brown Band is one of the biggest drawing acts in the south. Zac’s love for the great outdoors, cold beers, and good friends, comes through in his songs, which are one part personal and sentimental, and another part raucous and humorous. Zac’s style is acoustic-based and your jaw will drop as you bear witness to Zac’s frantic finger-pickin’, hand-thumpin’, nylon-stringed guitar solos. A true "Redneck Renaissance Man", Zac’s shows are a world of “chicken-fried” mayhem where fans raise their glasses and toast in unison to their favorite part of his songs.
Sun Diver (Rock/Americana)
April 14
Drawing comparisons to the Eagles and Ryan Adams, Sun Diver is Atlanta’s new Americana heroes. This “super” group is comprised of some of the best veteran Atlanta musicians who have played in local iconic bands including Johnny Hyde Quartet, Michael Tolcher and The Marvelous 3. Sun Diver features multi-singer/songwriter dynamics and instrumentation that blend spectacular arena rock sounds with a raucous bar band attitude. Together only a year, Sun Diver has shaken up the Atlanta music scene with only a few appearances under their belts, but the shows they’ve had so far have been highly attended musical “events” attended by anyone who’s anyone in the local music scene!
Heavy Mojo (Hip Hop/Funk/Rock)
April 28
The Heavy Heavy, as they are often called, first grabbed the attention of hip hop industry tastemakers with their win at the 2003 BMI Urban Music Showcase. Rock soon caught on to Heavy Mojo’s contagious old school beats (think Beastie Boys and Run DMC) meets classic riffs (ala Led Zeppelin) fused with 70’s soul. Credits to add inclusive to the band’s independent release of “It Is What It Is,” include two consecutive Atlanta Music Guide Awards, Winners 2006 Billboard Song Competition and video game Soundtrack placement on “Blitz the League” and “Ballers”. But aside from all that mumbo-jumbo, Heavy Mojo is an energetic, bombastic, sweaty rock‘n rap music experience that will blow you away and have you coming back for more! They are undoubtedly the reigning kings of the Atlanta music scene. Throw your hands in the air, Turner Field!
The Return (Beatles Tribute)
May 12
The captivating, fun, exciting spirit that came to be known as "Beatlemania" is alive again in the Return - the world's most authentic and entertaining Beatles tribute band! These four lads have carefully and skillfully recreated the Beatles experience by not only performing all the great songs of the original four, but also by sporting the same suits, boots, mop-tops, musical instruments, and gear! The Return make it possible for music fans from every generation to experience the same thrilling rush felt by fans who were fortunate enough to attend an actual Beatles concert in the early sixties. Come to Turner Field and celebrate the 60’s with the most influential band of not only that era, but the entire rock n roll generation!
Carrie Morgan (Pop)
June 2
Hailing from the “Natural State,” Carrie Morgan is considered more than a natural. As a young girl Carrie was singing at rodeos, fairs, festivals, and Political conventions and had success with a holiday radio original that raised over $10k for homeless shelters. Carrie’s teen years were packed with variety shows including singing as a tandem with current American Idol champ Carrie Underwood in the touring variety show “Country Music Round-up”. After singing demos on Music Row for a year, Carrie found the inner pop-rocker and started collaborating with Nashville’s finest rock/pop writers. Carrie’s music is beginning to draw comparisons to edgy pop rockers Michelle Branch and Kylie Minogue as she tours behind her best work to date winning fans and critics alike.
Cadillac Jones (Funk)
June 16
Standing on the shoulders of giants like Herbie Hancock, the Crusaders and James Brown, Cadillac Jones' sound is one part jazz, two parts funk, and three sheets to the wind! The band combines tight melodies and improvisational jams that grind the hips and tickle the mind. This sonic stew is spiced with saxophone, trombone, bass, guitar, keys, drums and turntables. Cadillac Jones has been touring the East Coast since 2000, playing shows with the likes of Karl Denson, Warren Haynes, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Charlie Hunter. The band has recorded two albums which can be found at amazon.com, itunes.com and record shops around the Southeast. They just finished up their third album (“The Big Takedown”) to be released Summer 2006. Come celebrate the decadence of the 70’s at Turner Field with Cadillac Jones!
Anthony David (R&B)
June 30
Savannah, Georgia, was David's home before migrating to Atlanta to jumpstart his music career. Songwriter/singer/guitarist Anthony David is recapturing the sound of Soul music that harkens back to the genre's banner era of the 60's and into the dawn of the 70's. On his beautiful debut album, “3 Chords and the Truth”, David layers his husky vocals atop melodic guitar strokes, which serve as the backdrop for his arresting lyrics that showcase his unique musicianship. His organic and eclectic approach to music can be credited to his passion for merging a great story with a great melody, which is the foundation of his 14-track CD. Says David: "There's an old-school saying that all you need to make a good song is three chords and the truth, so I tried to base everything in the truth--my truth. This album comes from a very honest place."
The Breakfast Club (80’s Tribute)
July 7
Formed in Winston-Salem, NC, The Breakfast Club soared to new heights on the club and college circuit with the then original concept of playing nothing but early 80's dance/keyboard-oriented cover music. These road worthy guys currently travel and play from New Jersey to Florida and from Louisiana to the Atlantic Ocean and everywhere in between. Their itinerary keeps them on the road playing approximately 180 shows a year. Since the group's inception, The Breakfast Club has performed for more than 1 million fans and probably driven as many miles! The Breakfast Club is arguably the most popular, premiere 80’s party band of the southeast!
Sullivan Sisters (Country)
July 289
Heidi, Holli, Amy and Kelly are four sisters from the small town of Jemison, right smack dab
in the middle of Alabama, with roots in country and gospel. Upon finishing school, they
went to Nashville to write and perform country music. Since their move to Nashville, they
have served as one of the rotating house bands at Gaylord’s Wildhorse Saloon, been pre-game
house band for the Tennessee Titans at the Coliseum for the 2004 season, and won the local
Nashville Colgate Country Showdown. They have shared the stage or opened shows for
Sugarland, Charlie Daniels, Mark Chesnutt, Sara Evans, The Oak Ridge Boys, and many others. The Sullivan sisters are truly a sound (and a sight!) to behold!
Stewart & Winfield (Jam/Southern Rock)
August 11
Call it folk roots with a hint of country or “Lowcountry rock”. Or how about just good old harmony-driven, roots rock n’ roll? With five albums under their belts, impressive independent albums sales, and a rapidly growing fan base, Stewart & Winfield are the South’s answer to the “No Depression, Midwestern” sound. Their song-oriented music consists of strong harmony vocals, and like the South itself, represents a constant meshing of styles and influences that are pleasing to the ear. Winfield Smith and Stewart Marshall performed and developed their songwriting as a duo in Athens, GA and Colorado ski towns from 1989-1994. Touring the Southeast as a five-piece band for the last several years, Stewart & Winfield continue to win fans, young and old, with their live performances.
Michael Warren (Pop/R&B)
August 25
Michael Warren has hooked his fans early before becoming a household name - and continues to make them proud to support him as he climbs the ladder to stardom! Originally from Hoover, AL, Michael wasted no time working towards his musical dream. Recently he was honored with an invitation to perform in a nationally televised UNCF fundraising concert. He has performed major music festivals in Alabama, including Birmingham City Stages, Huntsville Big Spring Jam and Mobile Bayfest. He has opened for Robert Cray, B.B.King, Will Hoge, Howie Day, and Michael Tolcher. There is a familiarity that is found in the universal themes of Michael's lyrics and a refreshing uniqueness in the music under them. By blending R&B, rock, pop and funk, Michael has created his own distinct sound that continues to win new fans.
Chicago Afro Beat Project (World/Afro-Beat)
September 8
Chicago Afrobeat Project (CAbP) is a dynamic, musical collective that mixes traditional afro beat with other dance-invoking musical motifs such as Chicago’s electronic house music, complex West African percussion rhythms and upbeat funk. In late 2002, the group began at a third-story loft in downtown Chicago. One by one, at a series of loft rehearsals, like-minded musicians joined the project, until members of the current band felt an undeniable chemistry. Today, the ever-morphing 7- to 14-piece CAbP consists of a full percussion section, a full horn section, keys, guitar, bass and African dancers (at select shows) -- and is still growing.
Tamboricua (Latin/Salsa)
September 15
Tamboricua is Atlanta’s premier Latin Dance Band. They have taken the Afro-Puerto Rican rhythms of bomba and plena, along with some salsa, meringue and Latin jazz to give a show that is guaranteed to make you dance! This is a group of 11 young musicians from Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia and the United States. They have extensive education and experience, having between them four Masters of Music degrees, two Bachelors of Music degrees and decades of experience performing and teaching in Atlanta, the Southeast and Puerto Rico.
Meghan Coffee (Pop/Indie)
September 29
Encompassing something in between pop, indie rock and a hint of folkadelica, Meghan Coffee’s visual lyrics and compelling melodies have been described by fans as, “mesmerizing,” “soulful,” and “electrifying.” Whether it’s the stripped down girl-and-her-piano show or the rockstravaganza with her Band of Brethren, a live Meghan Coffee performance is not easily forgotten. Having recently captured the imagination of the music community through a BMI showcase, national touring, and TV performances, Meghan is proving herself worthy of the sudden burst of attention. She was seen recently on Turner South’s “Music Road” series, a television show hosted by Edwin McCain that showcases signature artists and venues in the South. Georgia Music Magazine offered this flattering review: “Coffee, the dynamic redhead behind the Fender Rhodes piano, delivers a standout performance that will make folks wonder where this incredible singer/songwriter has been hiding.”
